Free Photoshop Brushes Resources
I have compiled a list of free Photoshop brushes resources. The sites listed here all offer free Photoshop brushes, however it is wise to check the TOS of each site because some of them may not allow the use of the free brushes for commercial projects.
Just a couple of things first.
How to install Photoshop Brushes:
Most of the brushes at the sites listed below, are available for download compressed either as .zip or as .rar files. Extract the .abr files (photoshop brushes files) that are found inside the compressed archives at Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop X\Presets\Brushes. Replace X with your Photoshop version.
How to organize your Photoshop brushes:
Many people, including me, download hundreds of Photoshop brushes sets. Installing all those brushes makes it difficult to navigate through them and find the brush you are looking for. In order to avoid this, you should organize your brushes. The way I do it is: I keep the brushes I use often in the Brushes folder while for the brushes I don’t use that often I have created new categorized folders (grunge, retro, flowers etc). So when I want to use for example a retro brush I load the brush sets from the Retro folder. If you have found a better way to do it please share with the rest of us.
Here is the list (The list is going to be updated regularly, so if you know of more places that offer free Photoshop brushes or if you offer brushes at your site leave a comment and I will add those sites to this list)

[…] Photoshop Tutorials Blog has created a terrific list of free Photoshop Brush sites. The compiler of this list deserves a lot of credit and has done a terrific job with a ton of links — but, as the editor warns, make sure and read the terms of service for each site, because some sites won’t allow these brushes to be used in commercial applications. If you know of any links that aren’t included, make sure and post a comment on the pstutorialsblog.com page, so there will continue to be a single resource we can all use. […]

[…] I know there’s a thing called writer’s block. But is there such a thing as blogger’s block? Lately I’ve not been able to come up with any snarky or humorous posts for this blog. Instead, I’ve been spending most of my time, despite my own advice, playing around with my header graphic in Photoshop. This is largely due to my recent discovery of brushes. There are literally thousands of them out there, just waiting to be downloaded. I used a brush of the New York skyline (pre-9/11) to spice up my header graphic a little. Originally the skyline had the twin towers included but I decided to photoshop them out because 1) they’re not there anymore and 2) I didn’t want to drag up any unwanted emotions from my readers. See, I’m thinking about you guys . I think I did a pretty good job of taking them out. I’m considering trying to replace them with those light beams that you’ll see there today. That, however, will require a bit of research on my part. I’ll have to find some photos of the beams and then figure out how to draw them in. […]

Does anyone here know where I might be able to find nice skyline/cityscape brushes? I’d hate to spend the time looking through all of those EXCELLENT links if there’s a great place someone already knows of.

Hello,
I was hoping you could add my website to your list of Photoshop
resources. It is brushes.net.tc and it contains a [growing] list of
400 free Photoshop 7+ brushes. I offer a very wide variety and I have
them alphabetised as well. There is a tutorial section as well as a
place to request brushes. I would be very grateful if you would add
my website! I think it will be a very good tool for people as soon as
I get some visits! As of right now, none of my hard work has paid
off, so I would be very grateful. Thanks!

We recently started GetBrushes.com to help artists to easier and faster find brushes they need. All reviewed brushes are presented in organized manner, sorted by type and author, searchable, with brush description and details listed, screenshot and usage examples images and of course download link.
In just 3 weeks we’ve already grown to 150+ quality brushes listed, and adding new ones literally each day.
Please check us out, and perhaps, if you find us worthy
, add us to this listing?

[…] Photoshop brushes can give a really nice touch to your Photoshop designs. From one comment left at one of my previous posts about Photoshop Brushes I found this new site that is a directory of available brushes for download from various artists. I have added it to the list but since the post is quite old I thought of blogging about it as well. The site is GetBrushes. It has a nice categorisation of the brush sets and each brush has a description and details information which makes the database easily searchable. Each brush set has a screenshot, which is nice and you can also rate the brushes, a feature that if used wisely will be very useful for people looking for good brush sets. If I find some time, I am planning to create a couple of brush sets to contribute. In the meantime visit GetBrushes digg this reddit this Furl this +Spurl this […]
